LAHORE
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday directed the Punjab government to submit detailed report about all prisoners released on parole.
Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik issued the order on a petition moved by a citizen challenging the release of a prisoner on parole convicted for killing his brother. Petitioner Yaqoob Ahmad submitted that an accused, Asim, had killed his brother and was sentenced to jail for ten years. However, the accused remained in the jail for some months but the home department had released him on parole, he added.
The petitioner contended that the release of a killer on parole was against the norms of justice and requested the court to cancel the release order of Asim and send him to jail again. The court heard initial arguments and sought reply from the Punjab government. The court also directed the government to produce till December 08 the complete record of the prisoners released on parole.
