KARACHI:
Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has failed to organise Sports Gala 2012
after owning the events of the Inter Board Sports Committee, ‘The News’
has learnt on Wednesday.
Students of all
Matriculation, Intermediate and Technical Boards and schools under Aga
Khan Educational Board are entitled to participate in these sports
events.
Informed sources said that Inter Board Sports Committee had been organising the events since 1960.
The committee has representatives from around 30 educational boards.
After
the 18th amendment, when various powers of PSB were given to the
provinces, it decided to prove its utility by doing something at the
grassroots level.
The PSB contacted the education boards, expressing its desire to organise some of their events.
The sources said that it was decided that PSB would organise six events for boys and four for girls in Sports Gala 2012.
The
events for boys were athletics, badminton, table tennis, volleyball,
hockey and football. Girls were to compete in athletics, badminton,
table tennis and volleyball.
The events were to be organised from November 11 to 14 at PSB’s sports complex in Islamabad.
But
the officials of education boards were informed the other day that the
dates of the events have been extended and that new dates have yet to be
decided.
PSB claimed that it was organising the events for the first time and so was facing some difficulties.
Thousands of boys and girls from across the country are to participate in the events.
“We
have been waiting for the response of PSB officials as we are
completely prepared to participate in the Gala,” an official
representing a group of education boards told this reporter.
