Orthodontics Braces are fixed or removable dental appliances used to correct the alignment of teeth and bite. Orthodontic or teeth straightening can be carried out to improving the general appearance and functionality of teeth. Dental braces serve a variety of purposes. Most commonly dental braces are used to straighten teeth that have grown in crooked and align the upper and lower jaws. Dental braces are fitted on the upper, lower or both sets of teeth depending upon the correction required. Dental braces apply continuous pressure to move teeth in a specific direction to bring about the right alignment and bite. The main goal of the teeth alignment treatment is to straighten crooked or misaligned teeth. Most commonly a fixed multi bracket therapy is used. In this case orthodontic wires are inserted into dental braces, which can be made from stainless steel or a more attractive ceramic material.Types of Orthodontic Braces
Several different types of orthodontic braces are available for the correction of crooked teeth and misaligned bite. All types of orthodontic braces are designed to enable the orthodontist to move teeth in three dimensions. The two main components of teeth braces are brackets and arch wire. Brackets are placed on teeth and the main arch wire that connects them. The bracket is a piece of shaped metal or ceramic that directly bond to each tooth.
The different types of teeth braces available are:
Conventional Metal Braces: Metal braces usually are the least expensive of all types of braces. Conventional metal braces are strong and rarely break.
Clear Ceramic Braces: Ceramic braces are made of composite materials. Ceramic braces are very strong and are not very noticeable to others. They are less irritating to cheeks and gums.
Lingual Braces: Lingual braces are the safest and most convenient option for patients of any age. Lingual Braces can be placed on the rear of patient's teeth.
Invisalign Invisible Braces: The Invisalign invisible braces are clear and are barely visible to others compared to other braces.
The teeth straightening period lasts from as little as 6 weeks to three years, depending on the level of movement required and the type of brace that is used. When teeth are straightened and the jaws are aligned the pressure is taken off of the joints that are located in the mouth and the patient feels much more comfortable. Adult teeth straightening treatment is available and is very popular now a days.
