ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson expressed deep regret over the ongoing killings in Karachi and offered to equip the Sindh Police with modern technology to grapple with the precarious situation.
He said this while talking to the Jang Group during a reception hosted in his honour by US Embassy’s Minister Consular for Public Affairs on Thursday. He said that the Karachi situation was an internal matter of Pakistan and it should be resolved with the help of political leadership of the province.
He said that Pak-US relation saw many upheavals in the past but these were being strengthened and it would be his top priority to improve these ties. About the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, he said that his country was prepared to make its contribution for its construction.
Richard Olson pointed out that this was a costly project for which a consortium of countries and multilateral institutions would have to be formed to arrange its funding. He said the US was actively supporting Pakistan to overcome its energy shortfall.
He said expansion of trade would remain high on his priority as US envoy to Pakistan. The US Ambassador said Washington appreciated the invitation by Pakistan to the delegation and the visit of Salauddin Rabbani was a very welcome development. Richard Olson said the United States and Afghanistan would begin their negotiations on Bilateral Security Agreement this week in Kabul.
