ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated re-investigation into former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani’s role in the appointment of Adnan Khawaja as Chairman Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
According to sources, the NAB’s operational wing Rawalpindi has re-started a probe despite earlier giving a clean chit to Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on his role in the appointment, as the investigation team did not find any solid evidence to prove in the court that the former prime minister had a mala fide intention in this appointment.
However, sources said now the NAB’s operational wing in Rawalpindi was tasked to find out court-worthy evidence against the former prime minister for his role in the appointment of Adnan Khawaja as chairman OGDCL.
When contacted, NAB Spokesman Zafar Iqbal Khan confirmed that the NAB had re-started the investigation against Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani over his role in the appointment of Adnan Khawaja as the Chairman OGDCL. “The regional operation wing Rawalpindi of the NAB is investigating the case,” he added.
According to sources, in the previous probe of which the report has been presented in the Supreme Court, the NAB did not find any court-worthy material to prove the mala fide intention of the former prime minister on the appointment.
Sources said the record that was acquired by the NAB showed that the Establishment Division did not mention any wrongdoing in the appointment.
“Now the record would be again sought from the Establishment Division,” sources said.It may be noted that the NAB had sent a questionnaire to Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani when he was officiating as the prime minister, but the reply was received from him in September.
“NAB asked 20 to 25 questions from Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani when he was the prime minister but during that period, no reply was received from him, and it was in September the Bureau received a reply from him,” a senior NAB official told The News.
The NAB is investigating the case on the directives of the Supreme Court.Former Establishment Secretary Ismail Qureshi has reportedly told the NAB investigators that Gilani and his Principal Secretary Nargis Sethi were responsible for Adnan Khawaja’s appointment as the OGDCL Chairman.
