Kaira asks people to elect MPs on merit

LALAMUSA: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Qamar Zaman Kaira said developing countries had limited resources and the people were not pleased with their governments due to their huge expectations.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a private hospital on Dinga Road, Kharian here on Monday. He said that people could bring a positive change and put the country on the way to progress by playing their role through votes. He asked the people that it was the time to rise above the ‘biradari’ system and elect their representatives on merit. He said that only competent candidates could bring a positive change in the country.

The minister said that the PPP was following the philosophy of reconciliation introduced by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and did not believe in the politics of collision. He thanked the people of NA-106 for electing him twice. He added that uplift was the right of the people. He claimed that the PPP had done clean politics during the last four and a half years.

APP ADDS: The minister said that the asses should realise what was the situation in 2008 when the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) assumed power and what the government had done for them. He said that the private sector was playing an important role in the health and education sectors, which had been devolved to the provinces after the 18th Amendment.

He added that it was a fact that both the federal and provincial governments had not been able to do much in those fields. The minister said that the government was doing its best to provide jobs to the unemployed youth. “The government has not only regularised the contractual and daily-wage employees appointed during the previous regimes, but reinstated those who were sacked in 1996-97,” he concluded.
