ISLAMABAD: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) while hearing the petition of members of Government Officers Cooperative Farming Society (GOCFS) directed deputy commissioner Islamabad to protect the 532 kanal land of the society from the land grabbers.
The petitioners through their counsel Atif Raja adopted before the court that Circle Registrar GOCFS Malik Din, a subordinate of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Amir Ali Ahmed, in connivance with the land mafia, initiated a move to deprive the society of its land worth billions of rupees.
The counsel told the court that an elected body has been looking after the society’s affairs. He said on May 18 the circle registrar after expiry of the elected body’s term, appointed Muhammad Hanif as an administrator of the society instead of holding fresh elections.
The petitioners told the court that previously there were 45 members in the GOCFS elected body but the new administrator added 50 more to manipulate the elections. They said the appointment of Muhammad Hanif at the hands of Malik Din was illegal as only the deputy commissioner was authorised to appoint the administrator.
The GOCFS members then filed an application with the chief commissioner Islamabad who after examining the record declared the appointment of Hanif as administrator as illegal on September 7 but the order was not implemented. Amir Ali Ahmed told the court that the local administration has already stayed the society’s elections and the charge of GOCFS has also been taken back from Malik Din. The deputy commissioner also told the court that the administrator GOCFS has also been removed from the slot.
