BAHAWALPUR: Former district Naib Nazim of Bahawalpur, Syed Awais Ahmad Gardezi, was mysteriously killed by a bullet at Nawazabad, Rahimyar Khan, on Friday.
Sources disclosed that Gardezi, also a PTI leader, had gone to his farm and was found in a pool of blood there. Later, he died on way to hospital. Gardezi was elected as the district Naib Nazim in 2001. He was a cousin of former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and nephew of former federal minister for health and commerce Syed Tasneem Nawaz Gardezi.
Nowadays he was canvassing for the coming general elections in NA-185 and PP-272 and was considered a strong candidate of the PTI. He was declared the best district Naib Nazim of Punjab by then Local Government and Rural Development Ministry.
