Ex-KBA chief dies

Karachi

A veteran lawyer and former president of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), Amin Lakhani, died on Wednesday after a protracted illness. He was 65.

The KBA, the Malir Bar Association and the Sindh Bar Council suspended the day’s proceedings as they mourned his death.

Lakhani has left behind three sons and a daughter. His Namaz-e-Janza will be held on Thursday (today) after Zohr prayers at a Mosque adjacent to his residence (K-105, Chapel Apartments, Clifton).

President KBA Mehmoodul Hassan and Secretary Khalid Mumtaz expressed grief over the demise of Lakhani and said he was a popular leader of lawyers. The two said members of the KBA and other organisations of lawyers in Karachi heard about his death in the morning and announced the suspension of proceedings in order to mourn his passing away.

Hassan said Lakhani had been seriously ill and suffering from a kidney problem for four years. He pointed out that Lakhani had contested as KBA secretary and president and every time he won the election. Besides, Hassan said, he also represented lawyers of superior courts after being elected vice chairman of the SBC in the past.

A son and a brother of the late Lakhani are settled in America and will arrive on Thursday (today) for attending his funeral.
