Country heading towards confrontation, warns Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Expressing concern over recent statements of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Friday said all the personalities need to demonstrate responsibility, seriousness and tolerance so that the situation may not go out of control.

Talking to media persons here at his chamber in the Parliament House, the opposition leader said amid differences between personalities or institutions, some serious and amicable way out should be found for a solution. “The country cannot afford any irresponsible attitude or intolerance,” he said.

He said in view of some recent happenings and reports which he has been receiving, situation in the country is taking alarming directions and important personalities need to take cognisance of the problem. “But unfortunately, we are heading towards an unnecessary confrontation while the rulers are enjoying the situation as if everything is satisfactory,” Chaudhry Nisar said. He said the prevailing situation, if continued, would benefit the elements having vested interests and those who want that their corruption goes behind the scene.

To a question, Chaudhry Nisar said the PML-N would show strong reaction against legislation with regard to planned abolition of the capital punishment, tax amnesty scheme and public officer-holders accountability. “The tax amnesty scheme is aimed at whitening the black money which was earned over the last over four years,” he said.
