KARACHI: Senior police officials of the city have denied that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has been implicated in a murder case.
Talking to The News late on Friday night, Additional Inspector General of Police Iqbal Mahmood, acting DIG East Captain Asim and SSP Investigations Malir Altaf Awan categorically said that the MQM chief had not been nominated as an accused in the murder case of three Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) leaders and a cab driver, who had been shot dead in Landhi a day earlier. They said rumours to this effect were unfounded and baseless.
Earlier, reports quoting the police had said that an FIR (No239/12) was registered under Clauses 302/34 and 109 on Friday at the Shrafi Goth police station against seven persons on the complaint of MQM-H worker Tahir Ali.
Earlier, the reports had said besides Altaf Hussain, MQM’s Karachi organising committee chief Hamad Siddiqui, Manzoor alias Lamba Landhi wala, Raees alias Mumma, Ahsan Iqbal and two other familiar persons were also among the accused persons.
In the FIR, the complainant had reportedly said that the MQM-H leaders and taxi driver were killed through firearms on the directive of Altaf Hussain. He also reportedly said that he can recognise the other accused on appearance.
