NOWSHERA: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) Monday disconnected power supply to the Jalozai Camp, a settlement established for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, due to non-payment of electricity bill.
Sources said the camp officials could not pay the outstanding amount of Rs9 million to Pesco for power consumption in the camp where more than 15,000 families comprising 105,000 individuals are residing. The sources said power supply was also disrupted to the camp tube-wells that created acute scarcity of potable water in the Jalozai Camp.
Talking to reporters, the camp manager, Noor Akbar said the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had recently cleared Rs40 million Pesco dues of the camp. He added the current power bills were to be paid by the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) as power supply to the camp last time was restored on the directives of the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court.
He added Governor Masood Kausar was well aware of this issue as the federal government would soon pay the Pesco’s outstanding bills.
