As a golfer, you would want to keep no improving on your overall game. This means being able to learn new techniques and executing them to perfection, especially when it comes to your swings. Muscle memory is the key
In sports that involve the act of using a specific part of your body in achieving a certain goal, your muscles do play a very integral part not only in the sense that you need them to execute the move itself but also by training them to adapt to that specific move and sort of "memorizing" it in a certain manner. The same can be applied when playing golf, particularly when making your swings. What you can start incorporating after your regular range practice is to hit at least 10 to 15 driver shots, but this time with both your eyes closed. Yup, you read it right, with both eyes closed. The idea behind this exercise is for your muscles along with the rest of your body to be able to memorize the swing and get a feel of the entire execution.
Start off by getting yourself in a position as you would address the ball but still with your eyes open. Now close your eyes as you take your golf club back then execute the swing with a sense of awareness with regards to the shot. Open your eyes after you are done with your swing and are already in the finish position. This exercise will benefit you, your muscles and will give you more awareness as to how your whole body keeps the proper positioning and execution. A perfect exercise to build muscle memory. Just be sure to use your driver and not your irons.
Building shot trajectory by lofting
Our next exercise involves building more trajectory on your short-game shots which can be achieved by lofting. The dynamics behind lofting is this – the closer you hit to the bottom of the ball, the higher it will go through after impact. Now our goal is to increase the loft and you can do so by lowering your grip end of the club or opening the face, both upon address of the ball. By doing any of the two, you will be able to propel the ball much higher especially when you are taking bunker shots.
These two exercises we have shared you should be incorporated in your regular training sessions in order for you to get the hang of it at first and be able to achieve your target goals concerning your swings. Always remember that any form of technique in the game of golf requires time, patience and practice in order for you to master it. So head on to the range and get those balls flying.
